Photography - Another Canal boat trip - Leek Branch of Cauldon Canal Staffordshire
64
A trip along the Leek Branch of the Cauldon Canal in September through the Leek Tunnel at Tunnel Pool after the breach was repaired in July/August 2010.
The breach happened in November 2009. We woke up one morning and the canal at the bottom of our garden was empty. I remember saying to my other half - 'What's wrong with the canal - there's no water in it.' He didn't take on board what I was saying and took me off to catch my bus as usual. Later he rang me to tell me that the canal was empty and all the narrowboats were sitting on the bottom. 21 million gallons of water leaked into agricultural land and the River Churnet. The Canal and Towpath from Tunnel Pool (Leek Tunnel) were closed from November to July.
These photographs show the restored canal and the repaired bank returning this stretch of water to its former glory.
